Independent medical examinations are performed by a physician most often hired by the Defense counsel. In many cases, the plaintiff attorney requests a Nurse Observer to accompany their client to the IME/DME to provide comfort and support during the examination.
The Nurse Observer can help educate the client about what to expect during the exam or what defense bias could be present during the medical evaluation.
For the attorney or claims adjuster, a detailed report, including a comprehensive history and medical record review, will reflect the examining physician’s efforts to obtain relevant data related to the client’s injury and/or health condition.
The Nurse Observer’s report will provide supportive information regarding the appropriateness of the exam and whether the physician assessment was thoroughly complete. A Nurse Observer’s presence during the IME/DME may refute any discrepancies, omissions or subjective bias during the evaluation. For more questions, please reach out on the Contact page.
